Corte Suprema avaló la extradición de alias «Otoniel» a Estados Unidos

La Corte Suprema de Justicia avaló este miércoles la extradición a Estados Unidos del máximo jefe del Clan del Golfo, Dairo Antonio Úsuga, alias «Otoniel», quien fue capturado en una operación conjunta llevada a cabo por la Policía y las Fuerzas Militares en el departamento de Antioquia en octubre pasado.

Tanto la Cancillería como el Ministerio de Justicia ya habían dado luz verde a la extradición y sólo faltaba la decisión de la Corte Suprema de Justicia para que se pueda hacer efectiva la extradición del que era en el momento de su detención el narcotraficante más buscado del país.

Ahora todo queda en manos del Gobierno de Iván Duque para que firme el documento que autoriza la extradición del máximo jefe del Clan del Golfo.

Alias ‘Otoniel’, que está preso en Bogotá en una celda de seguridad de la Dirección de Investigación Criminal e Interpol (Dijin) de la Policía, ha rendido varias veces versiones ante la Jurisdicción Especial para la Paz (JEP) y la Comisión de la Verdad.

El marzo pasado, la JEP rechazó la solicitud de sometimiento de Úsuga, quien había pedido ser juzgado por este tribunal especial que puede llegar a otorgar penas no privativas de la libertad.

Antes de ser capturado el 23 de octubre pasado, «Otoniel» era buscado intensamente desde 2015 en la región de Urabá por miles de policías y militares participantes en las dos fases de la «Operación Agamenón», mediante la cual fueron abatidos y detenidos decenas de hombres que estaban bajo su mando y en la que se incautaron centenares de toneladas de cocaína.

Úsuga es requerido por la Justicia de EE.UU. por delitos relacionados con narcotráfico, mientras que en Colombia tiene 122 órdenes de captura y seis sentencias condenatorias, entre ellas dos de 40 y 50 años de prisión, por homicidio agravado, homicidio en persona protegida, desaparición forzada, desplazamiento forzado y reclutamiento ilícito de menores.
